Chutneys Fine Indian Cuisine
The menu is quite deep and so the ordering takes some time as we resist old favorites such as butter chicken and try the Chicken Kamasutra instead. Accompanied by the mixed vegetable Hyderabadi Biryani, a mainly rice dish, the Chicken Kamasautra`s creamy cashew nuts and fresh cheese sauce add a sweet contrast. This delicate sweetness also works well against the dark rich Daal Makhani, and the Bhindi Do-Piaza, a dish consisting of okra fried with double helping of caramelized onions. We clean out the daal with both a well-buttered garlic naan and the ground lamb and herb stuffed keema naan. The keema naan can be spicy for the non-initiated. This taste is easily cooled with a spoonful of yogurt-based raita and Chutneys has two to choose from. The `Royale` is sweeter with the addition of walnuts, pistachios and raisins, whereas the `Dahi` contains the more traditional cucumber. Raita is similar to the Greek tzatziki, but contains no garlic. If you don`t get to Chutneys often, don`t miss the items from the tandoor. Chutneys makes good Tandoori Fish, putting a Canadian twist on an Indian dish by using salmon. A new dish offered in December will be Chicken Jalfrezie. It will be made with the same large grade A chunks of white meat cooked in a combination of green peppers, onions and tomatoes.
