Whether it’s time for you and your family to consider adopting a new pet, or you just have some extra time and are looking to volunteer, the Etobicoke Humane Society is worth checking out. A staple in the community since 1987, the Etobicoke Humane Society (EHS) runs off volunteers and is an independent shelter. They take care of surrendered cats and dogs and pairs them with new loving homes.

As a volunteer, you can help with the dogs or the cats, or lend a hand in the office. There are also student volunteering positions available. If you’re a family looking to add a cat or dog to your home, you can foster or come in and see if there is an animal you’d like to adopt.

Dogs are $450 to adopt and come spay/neutered and fully ready for you to take home and love. Cats are $175 for a single cat, or $300 for a bonded pair and they come spay/neutered as well and ready to take home. If you’d like to visit a cat or a dog, you can drop by between 10:30am-11:30am in the morning and 1:00pm-4:00pm in the afternoon on weekdays. You can also view cats on the weekends between 10:30am-4pm. Kittens are resting between 2:00pm-3:00pm every day, so if you wish to adopt a kitten it’s encouraged that you come another time. If you’re not sure if you’re ready for a permanent pet, you can also volunteer to foster a dog or cat. Fostering an animal helps an animal integrate with a family and receive care in the comfort of a home. Animals with special needs are often in need of a foster family, so if you have the time, attention, and space to give then consider fostering a cat or dog with EHS.

As EHS is fully volunteered and donation based, there are lots of fun fundraisers you can take part in if you’re passionate about animals and want to support a great cause in the community. From bowl-a-thons to holiday pet photo events, there are tons of events on the EHS Facebook you can take part in to support a great cause.
