The Kingsway has been lucky to be home to Hot Oven Bakery. When it comes to bread and baked goods, you won’t find any better. Having been established in 1957, Hot Oven Bakery now has five locations in the GTA, with the Kingsway location being their third opening.

You have to get to Hot Oven Bakery early if you want to snag the essentials – hot baked breads, rolls, and baguettes with savoury pies and quiches to eat later in the day for lunch or dinner. There are treats, like cookies, cakes, and pastries if you have a craving you need to satisfy or guests you want to impress (or, if you’re just looking for a treat all to yourself).

We recommend getting there before 2pm if you don’t want to miss out on the breads and baguettes that nearly fly off the shelves. After 2pm, the pickings might be slim but if you can’t get there until after 6pm, you might be able to snag a loaf for only $2.

When it comes to baked goods, you will definitely find something to satisfy every palette. Whether it’s sweet or savoury, they have it all. Cookies like chocolate chip, shortbread, to peanut butter and jam line the counters, with cinnamon buns, cakes, and their special orange chiffon cake ready to be taken home and shared with friends or family.

For those looking for dinner with a home cooked feel, there are also readymade dinner options and lunch options if you’re popping in to eat or grabbing something for later. The food from Hot Oven Bakery is much nicer than what you’d get at the grocery store readymade section, and heartier and more wholesome than takeout. They have pot pies, meatball subs, chili, and quiches depending on the day. If you want, you can even take home a tray of lasagna or some homemade perogies to heat up and serve.

Lastly, if you are just looking for a place to stop by and have a warm drink and a snack to catch-up with friends or play the crossword, you can do just that. There’s comfortable seating in a buzzing bakery environment waiting for you. Hot Oven Bakery is such a pillar of the community, chances are you’ll bump into a neighbor or meet a new friend while you wait. The bakery is a local favorite, and there’s no surprise as to why!
