A great initiative for the Kingsway community: Support Mimico Minor Lacrosse’s Baby Peanut program by recycling your metal or ewaste.
Ewaste – everything that is electronic e.g. computers (laptops and desktops), screens, routers, phones, printers, TV’s, etc, any cabling or cords – patch cords, power cords, extension cords, etc.
Metallic items – chairs, stools, desks, cabinets, tools, microwaves, fridges, stoves, washers, dryers, lawn mowers etc – anything with a significant amount of metal.
All items are recycled in an environmentally conscious manner through approved governmental programs. The proceeds are used to support Mimico Minor Lacrosse’s Baby Peanut program.
The Baby Peanut program (which is free to participants) is open to 3-4 years old boys and girls. They are provided with sticks, jersey and shorts. They have to bring gloves and a helmet with either a mask or a cage. It is non-contact and they are taught basic lacrosse skills of passing, shooting, catching and running with the ball. If runs from mid-April until the end of June.
The program runs out of Mimico Arena – just off Royal York about 1 km north of Lakeshore. To date, they have had over 400 kids register and have diverted more than 150,000 lbs of metallic and ewaste from landfill.
Help the environment and encourage kids to exercise by participating in Canada’s national summer game.
